High-Tech Devices Help Kids with Disabilities
I enjoyed reading this article because I have seen students with disabilities use technology to enhance their learning or daily life skills. It is amazing to see a child advance when they are provided with the right tools to learn with. I have seen a child use a CD player during class to help with focusing and getting use to loud background noises. I have also seen a child use an FM transmitter that is hooked up to the teacher. I think it is great that schools provide these assistive technology tools!

I agree with you. It is quite a remarkable change in the style and format of learning for students in today's society. Technology is a powerful tool that provides hands- on experiences, and motivate students' learning. Also, encourages higher order thinking skills that benefit students with learning disabilities.
ReplyDeleteI Agree with you as well, the use of assistive technology in the classrooms is an incredible benefit to students who needs extra assistance. I have used the FM Transmitter my first year teaching and it was really helpful to one of my students who was hearing impaired. As long as schools and states are willing to continue to invest their money in these technologies our students will continue to improve no matter what challenges they may face.
ReplyDeleteFM trainers are used for students with a wide range of disabilities... from ADHD to cochlear implants. Let's talk about this in class and the implications as children get older... I would love to hear what others think as well.
ReplyDeleteP.S. -- your blog is looking great!
I like this article! In my undergrad I taught a lesson on alternative communication devices and the different ways the non speaking population can communicate. There are so many hi tech deices out there for the students with special needs, its so interesting to hear about the different kinds
ReplyDeleteI have never seen any AT devices used in the schools that I have observed. I have only seen them on youtube. In watching the videos I find this technology to be extremly productive and empowering.
ReplyDeleteI have only observed general education classes, where no assistive technology was used (or needed.) I would love to see students at work with the use of A.T. devices, so I can view firsthand how they benefit from them!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to come across Assistive Technology use in the classroom. I do not yet know much about it but would like to learn so that when I am in the classroom I can be knowledgeable and possibly advocate for their use.
